I really like the twist on Ben Franklin's quote that was on one of my favorite childhood cartoons:

"Early to rise and early to bed

Makes a man healthy...but socially dead."

I just read an awesome quote and had to share it. As an artist/designer, it speaks to me but I hope others find it just as insightful. Those who don't know Rich Mullins, he was a Christian song writer, best known for "Awesome God" and "Sometimes by Step." Unfortunately the good Lord took him too early at 41 years old.

Rich Mullins:

Sometimes I find it hard to pray and maybe that is why I have written so many prayer songs is because it is easier if you sing sometimes and God may find it more entertaining than if you just say it too, who knows. Except, I am just not really all that sure that God is all that concerned about being entertained and that strikes me as just a human thing. Sometimes you know we try to pray and try to impress with all the right words, I just do not think it is an easy thing to impress God Almighty, if you know what I mean. Here is the thing we often forget, we do not have to impress him because he is already knocked out about you, He already loves you more than you can imagine. I remember reading a thing that Picasso once said, I like to read what famous artist say because I am barely able to look at their paintings without going into coma trying to figure what it is about. He said this one thing that I really did like, “Good taste was the enemy of great art”, which I think is very true. Good taste has all to do with being cultured and being refined, if art has to do with anything it has to do with being human. One of the reasons I love about the Bible is because the humans in the Bible are not very refined, they are pretty goofy if you want to know the whole truth about it. I remember when I was a kid and people would always say because I was one of those typical depressed adolescent types I wrote poetry and stuff that is how morose I was as a kid. People would go around and saying “cheer up man because God loves you” and I would say “big deal God loves everybody, that don’t make me special, that just proves that God ain’t got no taste” and I do not think he does, thank God. Because God takes the junk of our lives and he makes the greatest art in the world out of it and if He was cultured and if He was civilized as most Christian people wish He was, He would be useless to Christianity, but He is a wild man. I hope in the course of your life you encounter Him, but let me warn you, you need to hang on for dear life or let go for dear life maybe is better.

"The more I read, the more I was led to abhor and detest my enslavers."
"As I read and contemplated the subject, behold! that very discontentment which Master Hugh had predicted would follow my learning to read had already come, to torment and sting my soul to unutterable anguish.  As I writhed under it, I would at times feel that learning to read had been a curse rather than a blessing.  It had given me a view of my wretched condition, without the remedy.  It opened my eyes to the horrible pit, but to no ladder upon which to get out.  In moments of agony, I envied my fellow slaves for their stupidity.   I have often wished myself a beast.  I preferred the condition of the meanest reptile to my won.  Any thing, no matter what, to get rid of thinking! It was this everlasting thinking of my condition that tormented me.  There was no getting rid of it. It was pressed upon me by every object within sight of hearing, animate or inanimate.  The silver trump of freedom had aroused my soul to eternal wakefulness." Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, An American Slave (1845) from Classic Slave Narratives, edited by Henry Louis Gates Jr. as quoted by Chris Brady in Turn the Page

While Frederick Douglas spoke of his experience with slavery this spoke to me of our experience with ignorance and how it shackles us down to virtual if not actual slavery of the mind.  While many can read many are as Mark Twain stated "The man who doesn't read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them."

David

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

Mother Theresa

  “He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future.”  or  “whoever has the youth has the future.”  -Adolf Hitler

Even though this was the tyrants writings, I like this quote! Because what evil tries to claim, God uses to glorify Himself.

This is such a great basis for empowering us to push the Edge Series products and educate the youth and young people of our nation with sound principles and truth. This is where my heart lies, in getting a footing of influence on our youth, and turning the tide of apathy and misdirection. We need to win over the youth and win the future for our generations. Keep it coming - More Edge material, tools, armament please!

"A leader's dynamism doesn't come from special powers. It comes from a strong belief in a purpose and a willingness to express that conviction"

- Kouzes & Posner (2003)

"The will to win, the desire to succeed the urge to reach your full potential, these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence."

-Confucious. (long time ago)

I have many favorite quotes, but these two I have them printed and they are an important part of my paraphernalia.

Greetings,

-Vladimir Raykov
